Nice people, real friends and true companions feel this way. They don’t want to change you because they don’t feel that you need to change, they love you for who you are. Because you are a unique and rad individual. Anyone that suggests otherwise, malicious intent or not, can go fuck themselves.
I’m serious. Too many times in my life people have told me I need to change something about myself. Whether it be from a friend, boyfriend or random person I never met, (which happens quite often).
The later is the type that pisses me off the most. The type that make comments in line at a check-out, or over the Internet. Listen, if I don’t ask, don’t tell.
I get a lot of comments like the following, “Why did you get those? I don’t like tattooes.”
The comment came from an older man standing behind me in line at the grocery store, and replied, “I don’t particularly like your face but I was polite enough not to say anything about that.”
And that shut him up and he actually apologized for his comment and admitted to being rude.
Still, this shit happens all of the time. And when it does, don’t feel bad about firing something back.
If someone told the T-Rex they didn’t like his tiny arms and he should get extensions, he’d bite their head of.
If someone told the Boa Constrictor they didn’t like the rat bulge in his belly and he should take smaller bites, he’d strangle the fuck out of them.
If some one told the Bull they didn’t quite like his horns…well, you get the picture.
Hearing people’s constant stream of unwarranted bullshit opinions is annoying.
Like I said, people like to offer their opinion on my tattoos. That I shouldn’t have got them, or I shouldn’t get anymore and don’t I ever feel bad I made myself “un-pretty”? Go fuck yourself seems to be an appropriate response and I let them know, that when I got them, I really didn’t consider their opinion.
Also my hair. Don’t bleach it, grow it out, let it be natural, why is it so big? Because that’s the way I like it! And by the way, let me know what the natural color is because I haven’t seen it in 13 years. And no, I don’t want to die it dark and look like a Kat Von D drone, thank you very much.
Also, the weight issue. When I got off the drugs I was a little heavier in the face than my usual weight. When I was going through detox I actually had some “friends” mention that I gained some weight and should join their gym. Really? It’s probably because I just kicked a narcotics addiction fuck-wad. And then when I did hit the gym, I of course, was too skinny and needed to put on some weight.
You can’t please everybody and by god, they’ll let you know about it.
Here’s the rules for firing back at “suggested changes” made by others. It’s okay if:
1) You didn’t ask
2) You don’t know the person
3) You do know the person and they should know better
Put people in their place when needed. You of course don’t have to be too sharped tongued or invoke some kind of physical violence; but a nice, quip and memorable response is fine. Go ahead and throw some fucks or shits in there, this way they’re sure not to forget it. Look at it this way, you’re saving them from a possible future beat down and someone else from getting put down, by speaking up.
Don’t ever, ever let anyone tell you what you should change.
It’s not mean or rude to say that you don’t give a fuck what they think and that if you did, you’d ask. And until then, they should shut the fuck up.
So fuck what other people say and just get on with being your bad selves.
