New York, New York. The city of dreams and also despair. Where every mother fucking vice you could ever have comes out to play.
Fuck out of the wood work, its a full blown plague of everything that will kill you.
Sex. Drugs. Booze. Pain. Love.
Whatever it is, it’s here in spades.
Look out, Bucko. Be careful what you wish for. Because you may just get it all, and it may just kill you.
Which poses the question:
What the fuck it is it that makes us want to take something, (something that in small doses may not kill us) and amp it up ten fold, until it sickens us.
Poisons us due to excess. Overdose.
New York seems to be prime for this. It makes Hollywood look weak. Because here in New York, there’s more dark creatures lurking. This is no city of angels.
A little morbid for a Friday, but needed. A question posed not often enough?
Why the need for excess? Why is a little never enough? Overkill seems to be the norm around here. Which is ever so slightly fading due to economic hardships.
Now; it’s been said a million times over, no need for excess. But does anyone ever try to figure out why the fuck we want it? Or why we want to do shit that will take us out?
Depression, anxiety, boredom, anger and lust. Sure. Key Factors.
Brain chemistry, science, Satan. All possibilities to some.
For me, I just chalked it up to my "personality" and my being inherently bad. Once I wiped my brain of that stupid notion, 18 months ago; living got easier.
I saw the stupidity surrounded by excess and how that life style, no matter what the poison: swallowed the participant whole.
Love sick, dope sick, masochistic bullshit; all of it will kill you.
I was fortunate enough to catch it before it took me out entirely and I gave myself a second chance.
And in the end that’s all we can do, is give ourselves a second chance.
Say no to self-defeating behaviors, give up our masochistic ways and surrender ourselves to a life of clean living.
It’s far from boring and is much less disappointing.
So maybe next time before giving into your excess and desire, stop and ask yourself why you want it and do you need it?
I’m sure there’s something else that will make you happy and not kill you.
