I want, I need, I must…This could be better. It’s the last one that really honks me the fuck off.
I have to keep my hand from jolting upward in a smacking motion.
Everyone knows the difference between want and need. I want a new pair of Louboutin leather boots, but all I really need is a pair of boots for the winter. I must cover my feet with something so I don’t freeze or contract some fucked up street disease.
But when I have what I must and what I need I try not to do the, “well it could be better,” especially if I’ve gotten something I want.
That’s the biggest annoyance, seeing people get what they want, when they don’t even need it and then watch them pick it apart to nothing, wanting it to be better, enhanced, changed, altered, whatever.
If it’s clothing and it doesn’t fit, alter away. But if there isn’t shit wrong with it and it’s just someone bitching to bitch, my face starts to twitch.
I wasn’t brought up privileged, I wasn’t brought up poor either, I can see the value of things and I know to take what you get and make the most of it.
I’m not saying I don’t want or have some of the finer things in life, I just don’t complain about them when I get them. I don’t piss on them just for the sack of pissing on them. I’m not a Negative Nancy I guess. I’m just a happy little turd who’s grateful for what they’ve got.
I think more people should do an inventory of what they have, material, mind, body and count their lucky stars instead of complaining. You hear that shit everywhere. Eavesdrop a group of women shopping in a mall. You’ll want to stick your finger down your throat and tickle your stomach.
Before this turns into an epic word battle waged against consumerism, let me just stop here and make my point.
Gratitude. Be grateful for what you’ve got. Be happy with it. We’ll always be in need of something, that will never change. The world doesn’t owe any of us dick, so the least we can do is be happy with what we get when we get it.
Gratitude brings with it satisfaction and fulfillment and isn’t that all we’re really after anyway?
