So in taking more of my own advice, I took yesterday off.
Instead of getting overwhelmed and going in my head from juggling my multiple jobs and focuses; I cancelled everything. I played hooky from my own life.
I put on a record I loved in high school that I had wanted to just sit and listen to all week. I put on a racy dress I hadn’t worn out yet, for no reason. Did my hair and makeup in no hurry or rush. Without anyone or anything in mind.
I took the subway uptown, I took my time.
I met friends for dinner then went and saw a movie. I took the subway home, waiting forever for it to come and not caring.
I rearranged some things I had meant to for forever in my house. Shopped online for nothing in particular and fell asleep to a movie OnDemand I had been meaning to see for months.
I didn’t give a shit. For once in the last few years, I had nothing to do. No schedule. I just did.
So not only was I present as fuck, but I took a “personal day”. It’s another one of those corporate / pop-psychology catch phrases I hate, but the principle is right on.
It does work. I knew it did, again, from watching my clients. I told them to take a break, but I never did.
I stressed out somewhat about loosing money and breaking commitments but woke up feeling energized, versus lethargic. Which the last few weeks, had been every morning for me.
Just being, not planning. Just doing that recharged this worn out Bitch. So next time you’re feeling shitty and worn down, say fuck it and just play hooky from life. Take the fucking personal day. You’ll be glad you did.
Unless it means you’ll get fired or blow a big opportunity. Don’t be a dumb-ass about it.
