I went to recent lecture on meditation, something I've never been able to master. But this helped me, so I thought I'd share and put it out there...
Begin sitting in a quiet place, a place of comfort, lit by candles if you choose. In a chair, sit upright with both feet on the ground and arms rested in a comfortable position.
Imagine the earth below you. It's grounding power. Slowly envision your feet becoming one with the ground, being a part of it, changing to it. Allow it to flow up through your calves slowly, than thighs. Up through your hips than solar plexus. Than the chest up to the neck and than the head. Being one with the earth. Imagine the stars and universe above you and the light they bring. Allow that light to form almost a halo shape above your crown chakra and let the energies combine.
Slowly feel the halo of light extend downward like a light luminescent veil over your body. Flowing down like silk and or feathers, encompassing your body and shielding you. Let it make it's way slowly taking that calm and serene energy in until it hits the floor covering your feet.
As you bathe in the illumination imagine your inner flame in your chest. The flame grows bigger, a great white light expands outward from it. All of the elements are with you. Remain in this state as long as desired. Slowly open your eyes and take a deep breath to end the meditation.
**this is the best translation I could remember from what we learned and practiced last Sunday. It actually worked and having sensory things to envision helped. Much better than sitting in my chair trying to do breathing exercises and shut my head off. That never worked for me. This actually did and afterwords I felt knocked out for a good 10-15 minutes, but in a good way. I've tried it at home but patience isn't one of my virtues... But when you need it, I've found this way worked the best in me. I'm still 8 apparently and need stories to shut my head off... But, hell- it worked! I also can't hold it for long. I find about 10 minutes. I like to speed things up- again, my lack of patience. But when I find my mind wandering I just pick up where I left off versus starting all over.
